AI Tools for Learning

Use AI as a tutor, not a replacement for thinking

AI can explain, quiz, and organise your study material. But it can also make you passive. This lesson shows how to use AI as a thinking partner while keeping your own brain in the driver’s seat.

1

Use AI to explain, not to replace study

When you are stuck, ask an AI to explain a concept in simpler terms or to give you examples. This can save hours. The mistake is to stop there. If you only read the AI’s explanation, you have not learned it. Always follow up with a self-test: close the chat and explain the concept yourself.

2

Generate practice questions

One of the best uses of AI is generating practice questions from your notes or textbook. Ask for multiple-choice, short-answer, or application questions. Then answer them yourself before checking the AI’s answer. This combines AI speed with active recall, which is where real learning happens.

3

Check the AI, don’t trust it blindly

AI can be wrong. Always verify facts against your course materials, textbooks, or trusted sources. Think of AI as a study partner who is helpful but sometimes makes mistakes. The habit of checking its output is itself a valuable critical thinking skill.
